The Crescent Moon Spring, located at south Dunhuang, Gansu Province of China, is famous across the world since time immemorial. It boasts its clear water like a mirror and its survival in the dry desert. The Crescent Moon Spring is named for its crescent-like shape. And sand can never bury it. Therefore, the spring gets the name "First Desert Spring under Heaven". In addition, the Crescent Moon Spring has a beautiful story.

Long long ago,  there was no Crescent Moon Spring or even a creek in the desert. People there suffered from drought which scorched most of the plants. Hunger and thirst threatened people's life. They were in such despair and cried day after day.Accidentally,  a fairy passing by heard the cry. She felt so sad as well as sympathetic that she went to Guanyin for help immediately. Guanyin brought amrita there and sprinkled it down to the desert. There at once appeared a spring whose shape is just like a crescent moon.Consequently, people were rescued and lived a happy life from then on. In this way, the Crescent Moon Spring obtained its name.
